Hello dearies, how do you love your coconuts? Coconuts can be eaten raw, used in cooking delicacies e.g. coconut rice etc., made into a tropical drinks, used for baking and lots more. But these days a lot of people are left with the option of using coconut seasoning alone for making some of these delicacies because of the stress involved in extracting the coconut milk.

So, I came across a pretty easy method of extracting coconut milk. I think you’ll love this stress free way of extracting your coconut milk. When you add this milky extract to your cooking, it changes the texture and the taste of any dish you put it into. The coconutty taste added to your dish by this high quality coconut milk extract, will make any delicacy you’re preparing richer and healthier. And guess what? Coconut milk is also a good substitute for a dairy-free diet.

Come on, let’s make some fresh, coconutty and healthy coconut milk *wink*

What you need for coconut milk extract

  • 2 fresh coconuts (approx. 600g each)
  • 3 cups of water

Directions for extracting the Coconut Milk

  • Deshell (break open) the coconut.
  • Peel the brown outer covering.
  • Now what you’re left with is the white coconut meat.
  • Roughly chop it and grind it with 1½ cups of water.
  • Squeeze out the coconut milk (using a muslin cloth or strainer). This is the first extract which is thicker.
  • Now once again, put the same coconut and another 1½ cups of water.
  • Squeeze out the coconut milk again. This is the second extract.
  • Use any way you like.

Note

  • Some people also take out the third extract, but I find the third extract almost tasteless.
  • You can either discard the grated coconut as it may be tasteless or you can use them in gravies.
